The first game of the season was a matchup of two very evenly matched teams. Marcellus had the lead for the majority of the game, but never took more than a 7 point lead. In the 3rd quarter, we battled back by pushing the pace and scoring four consecutive fast-break baskets, three by Jaden Barnes and one by Isaac Houdek. We were able to tie the game with about 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter and traded possessions with no baskets until we turned it over at the top of the key and Marcellus ran it back for a layup to go ahead by two points. Which is how the game ended with a final score of 26 - 28. Johnny Inman and Landon Welsh played outstanding in the post boxing out and getting offensive and defensive rebounds. Evan Jewett, Josue Soriano, and Juan Porrez played hard-nosed defense the entire game, while Curtis Ciborski and Mikal Ellis stayed calm and collected while passing and dribbling through Marcellus’s 1-3-1 full-court press. The entire team played extremely well offensively and defensively for the first game of the season and never stopped competing even though we were losing most of the game.
